The different groups of rats were administered with thioacetamide (100mg/kg, s.c.). Drug Silymarin (100 mg/kg,) was used as reference standard. The rats were monitored for biochemical changes of serum Glutamate Oxaloacetate Transaminase (SGOT), serum Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase (SGPT), serum Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), and bilirubin (total and direct). Activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase in liver tissue homogenate (LTH) and Histopathological changes were observed. From the experimental results it was proved that the crotalaria juncea seed extract (CJSE) possesses hepatoprotective potency in a dose dependent manner by reducing the elevated levels of marker enzymes and by increasing the decreased antioxidant enzyme activity.
