Abstract

The aim of present study was investigate the effect of Cognitive – Behavioral therapy on relationship beliefs (irrational beliefs in marital relations) of infertile women, Pardisan, Iran. This cross sectional descriptive analytic study
was performed on 30 infertile women attending the Infertility Clinic Vali-e-Asr Reproductive Center (Pardisan,
Iran) and divided to two groups, each group was 15 women (Control and experimental groups). Participants were
selected by systematic random sampling from the patient list by nurse receptionist in each clinic and participants
who fit in the inclusion criteria of infertility duration of >1 year and diagnosed with primary infertility. Data were
recorded in Persian form of Relationship Beliefs Questionnaire (RBQ; Romance & DeBord, 1995) and structured
researcher questionnaires. Experimental group participated in 8 sessions of cognitive group therapy, each session
120 min and each session run in one week, totally 8 weeks. Covariance analysis for relationship beliefs at pre-test
between groups showed that there is no significant difference between mean scores of experimental and control
groups. But analysis for relationship beliefs at post-test between groups showed significant difference between
mean scores of experimental and control groups. Our results showed that a period of cognitive behavioural therapy has significant difference on relationship beliefs in infertile women.
